Surrendering your pet

Things to consider

Surrendering a pet is a tough decision no matter the reason.  We understand the world has changed a ton making it difficult on folks and their families when it comes to animal care.

The cost of veterinary care has tripled/quadrupled in our area, even for us, so we feel this, deeply. The time people have has also diminished so young people and adults are having to work 2-3 jobs just to get by, leaving our pet friends to manage themselves.  Resources are diminishing  as more and more shelters and rescues are receiving less donations to keep them afloat. The cycle is vicious, and can be painful. We. Get. It,

More than anything, we want to help the best way we can to keep your family/fur family together. That is always going to be our main goal. Should that not be an option, we have provided some resources below for rehoming your pets.

We are currently FULL and cannot take surrenders at this time.

Resources

- Our local shelter has a Home to Home option where you can post your pet for adoption on their website while keeping your pet in your home until a new home is found.  You can access that link here:

https://southwesthumane.org/services/rehome-your-pet

- Nextdoor (the app) has been a great tool to post your pet to locally.

- Social Media - Facebook has several groups dedicated to posting your pets locally for rehome. For our area:

     - we will add more locations soon

- Local Rescues

     - Furry Friends Washinton (cats)

     - Mila's Mutts

     - Second Chance Companions

We do not recommend giving away pets, or posting on Craigslist

What not to do

Please do not leave your dog somewhere and hope for the best. It will not be "the best."
